I would not call it sores. It is dry places on the inside of my cheeks. And my tounge is very sensitive. Can't eat hot, spicy, salty can't brush my teeth with toothpaste cause it hurts my tounge. It is a burning sensation. When I look at my tounge in the mirror, it reasembles sandpaper. And my taste buds are not functioning normally. When you quit you are suppose to regain your ability to taste. From the tip of my tounge back about 3/4" my taste buds seem numb. Ironically that is the same area that has the sensitivity to heat, spicy, salty also just sensitive to the touch. Dude, I would get to the doctor ASAP. I know EXACTLY how you feel. You'd rather get someone on here to tell you to gargle with salt water for 7 days and it'll clear up, than go to the doctor and get some scary news. But the reality is, you're 100000000 times better off going to get that checked and perhaps treated then living with it while it potentially gets worse. If you go now, they may be able to fix it. If you ignore it and hope it goes away, it could potentially get worse and 6 months from now you'll hear those words nobody wants to hear: "If detected early, you could have gotten help. It's too late now." For the record... I have no idea WTF is going on with your mouth. It could be nothing, it could be terrible. PLEASE GO TO THE DOCTOR. I agree with this 100%. You've had these problems for three weeks now. It's time to let a doctor check it out ASAP. I third that opinion. I figure you've saved over $250 since you quit (not including impulse buys like coffe, candy...). The doctor visit is already paid for. PLUS, It is a virtual (not 100%, but darn close) certainty that he will give you good news. We all need to know bad news so we can respond to it quickly and appropriately. We all need good news and a pat on the back from health pros, just because we can use all the encouragement we can get. Or be stubborn like me, go to cotton balls instead of SMC, and see what happens. In the meantime, don't effing dip. Find a newcomer to help! I will "fourth" the opinion on going into the Dr. for an evaluation. The sooner you know the better. It can be hard to man up here - which is one of the reason's we are in this damn predicament anyway. I've got a Dentist appt on Thursday this week. I have always dreaded this visit - but I am actually looking forward to it this year!! Have you been eating alot of sunflower seeds or Pistachio's? I was hitting the pistachio's really hard today at work - and my tongue was feeling like you described. I quit chomping on the pistachio's about an hour ago - and the tongue is feeling normal again. Just a thought.... |

I'm on day 47 of my quit and ever since about day 25, I have been having some issues inside my mouth. I have these two spots that seem really freaking dry inside my cheak on each side of my mouth. My tounge is wore the fuck out. It is really sensitive and I have lost maybe 30% of my ability to taste. I use sugarless gum and hardcandy as crutches. But my main thing is SMC. Is it likely that one of these is causing my symptoms? Have other people experinced this? I hope that it is not the SMC as it is my primary means of getting through the day without nicotine. I ranted to my wife over the weakend that so far have not seen one positive benefit of quitting. I mean I am sure that I will be much better off in the long run but come on I need to see something now. I can't even taste alot of my food right now. Somebody please help. I just read this. You have not seen ONE positive benefit of quitting? What the??? Why did you quit in the first place? |

Have you been to the dentist and asked about the sores? Mouth issues are common during quits but it sounds weird for yours to have come so far into your quit. I'd go see a dentist when it comes to sores. |

Benefit of dipping over freedom. Another benefit of chewing. Here is a good reason to chew. Does your wife like to tongue kiss? Try it with this baby! You may want to stock up on ointment. I would leave my wife for this gal. With all these benefits to chewing, why would you even come to this site? [/sarcasm] |
