jdrsdaddy - 47 - PRD? Hello?
Virginia Jim
I am at work today, trying to get caught up on a few things so I can go on vacation without thinking of all the stuff I have to do. I am having a few more cravings of late, but nothing I cannot handle. It seems like I go several weeks with very little effort to stay quit, then BAM there is a day or two full of cravings. Usually the cravings seem to be stress induce, but there are also stressful days that do not generate any difficulty staying quit. Well apparently I am still a nicotine addict. Oh well I guess I will live with that.

I have been stressed to get some stuff done at work, so I can get out of town on vacation next week. I think that is my trigger the last few days, but I am still well in control of my quit. I almost went out and bought SMC because I thought it would help me focus on some stuff at work. I ended up "dipping" moistened green tea from the kitchen at work to get me through the a couple hours of work yesterday. There is still something about focusing at work that still triggers the desire for dipping. I do not even think it is the nicotine as much as it is the pacifier effect. Using the tea yesterday actually did the trick and helped me focus and work.

I had a cave dream last night first one in probably over 100 days. Scared the crap out of me, but was relieved that it was only a dream. Maybe I had the cave dream because I was "dipping" the green tea. Who knows.

Anyway, I am feeling good today and happy to be nicotine free for 221 days.

No Tobacco Today!

There is always room for the Crue's Mother Hen. Just try to keep the thrusting to a minimum.

Only 10 more days to ONE YEAR! Very nice! Any big plans to celebrate?

________________________________________

Some people would argue that chew-a-holic is just a cute euphemism which should not be compared to what they consider degrading syndromes. Contrary to this belief, nicotine addiction can be equally as strong and deadly as any of these other conditions. In fact, if you total the number of people who die yearly of all these other conditions combined, they would not add up to the number of premature deaths attributed to chewing and smoking.

Until recent times, the idea of nicotine being a physiologically addictive substance was controversial in the world-wide medical community. For a drug to be considered addictive, it must meet certain criteria. First, it must be capable of inducing physical withdrawal upon cessation. Nicotine abstinence syndrome is a well documented, established fact.

Second, tolerance to the drug usually develops. Increasingly larger doses become necessary to achieve the same desired effects. Chewers experience this phenomenon as their chew consumption gradually increases from what probably was sporadic occasional use to a required daily consumption of one or more cans.

The third criterion is that an addictive substance becomes a totally consuming necessity to its user, usually resulting in what is considered by a society as anti-social behavior. Many have argued that chewing and smoking fail to fulfill this requirement. True, most chewers do not resort to deviant behaviors to maintain their dependency, but this is because most chewers do manage to easily obtain the full complement of chews they need to satisfy the addiction. When chewers are deprived of easy accessibility to chews, the situation is totally different.

During World War II, in concentration camps in Germany, prisoners were not given enough food to fulfill minimum caloric nutritional requirements. They were literally starving to death. A common practice among smoking prisoners was to trade away their scarce supplies of life sustaining food for smokes. Even today, in underdeveloped countries, such as Bangladesh, parents with starving children barter away essential food for smokes. This is not normal behavior.

During the "stop smoking clinics" I conduct, numerous participants admit to going through ashtrays, garbage cans and, if necessary, gutters looking for butts which may still have a salvageable value of a few dips when their own supplies are depleted due to carelessness or unforeseen circumstances. To them, it is sick to think that they ever performed such a grotesque act, but many realize that if they were currently chewing or smoking and again caught in a similar predicament, they would be fully capable of repeating the repulsive incident.

Nicotine is a drug. It is addictive. And if you let it, it can be a killer. Consider this when you get the urge for a chew. One dip can and most often will reinforce the addiction. Don't take that chance.

I'm sitting on the deck watching the kids playing in the lake, bride sitting next to me looking all dat, and it occurs to me:

This is going to be the first 4th of July without dip in over 19 years.

I reflect for a while, and then something out of the blue goes through my head - it was a picture of DNM standing next to that NASCAR.

I know that Sir DipNoMore is having a rough go at work, but today I said a small prayer for him. Sure miss the posts my friend. If there's anything I can do you'd better let me know.

Anyway, have a great day my friends.

Same to you Eric. I hope you are enjoying your weekend. I've been gone for a while so, I'm not sure what is up with DNM but I assure you he is in my thoughts and I hope all is well.

DNM, if you need anything call me. The honeymoon is still going strong but I think I'm about sick and tired of walking. That is all we have done for a week is walk around a look at old homes and gift shops. It amazes me how every gift shop is exactly the same but women feel a need to go into every single one of them.... I don't get it.

I was actually so frustrated today that I thought about a big fat lip full of Kodiac for the first time in a very long time. I just popped in some gum and fought through it. I hate having craves, they are scary. I don't know what I would do if someone stuck a can in my face????

Anywho, tomorrow we are going to Fort Sumnter, so I am excited about that.

Oh, FYI - I am pissed that the Sabres couldn't sign either captain. WTF....That sucks so bad!! I don't know what they are thinking. It was the first day of the free agency and they let them go and failed to sign any other big names....... :arg:

Talk to you guys later, hope all is well.

Uh huh. I was experiencing the same as you and the Crue came to my bedside a week or so ago. It has been very common across the Crue...

Guess what friend(s)? It got better. Keep fighting the good fight and keep the Crue in your toolbox.

These late craves are a constant reminder to remain humble and on the lookout while battling this addiction.

Stay strong Crue!

I think you've hit on something important, at least to some of us. The "pacifier effect" does seem to be a factor in certain situations and almost anything seems to satisfy it. Even something as tasteless and chemically neutral as a piece of cotton has helped me.

Not a good day for the Sabres they lost Drury and Briere. :(

Speaking of the Buffalo Sabres has anyone heard from Hancuf. His last activity was June 15th, but I do not see that he posted roll call then. Not sure when the last time he posted roll was.
