Well, I'm on day 9. I just got back from the tobacco store. I just had to buy a tin. I bought the cheapest tin I have in a long time, and am having a dip now. The tin was only $4.

I confused the guy at the tobacco shop, since he hasn't seen me in a while, and it wasn't my regular order.

What did I pick up?

I got some "Smokey Mountain" classic.

It's not my Copenhagen, but I can cope with this when I need something. It really reminds me of Grizzly straight. Kinda salty, too, but acceptable.

I've got to say, I was tempted in the tobacco store, but I knew what I was there for, and kept my wits. I was surprised how much fake chew they had there. Of the tins out on the counter, about 1/3rd of them were fake/tobacco substitute products.

I'll update later how/if it helps the cravings. cool.gif

Oh, also-the brands that they had, that I remember, were several types of this Smokey Mountain stuff, and that Eat Mint brand. I think there was one other brand, but I don't remember what type.

If I might make a suggestion; they sell SMC at Wal-Mart. There are days here at nearly two years when I wouldn't trust myself in a tobacco store.... Why tempt fate? Damn good work on 9 days. You'll get your double digits tomorrow, which'll feel excellent. Stay strong and stack the odds in your favor.

Why tempt fate? Because they don't have it at our wal-mart here. Our wal-mart does have chewing tobacco, though.

All Wal-Marts are supposed to have it. The one I normally shop at had it when I first quit, but then stopped carrying it. So I guess it just depends on which store you go to. But the drawback is that it is still only sold through the tobacco aisle, even though it has no tobacco or nicotine. They don't want kids to try it, and get addicted to the habit of dipping then switch to the real thing (that would defeat the purpose of the fake dip). But I'd agree with Geo. IF it is available in someone's local Wal-Mart or other store, it's best to go there instead of a store specifically targeted towards selling tobacco. But if that's the only place around you where it is available, then so be it. If you feel it's helpful for your quit, use it. Maybe just stock up on it when you go there, so you don't have to go too often. By the way, congrats on double digits today, user53!

I don't think I'll be going through this one tin anytime soon. I don't want to use it too often, because part of the addiction is just having something there. Plus, I don't really like this stuff. But when I do have a strong craving, it does seem to help.

Out of curiosity, I asked the guy if you had to be 18 to buy this stuff. His response was "No, you don't have to be legally, but you should be, and I won't sell it to anybody under 18"

I found that a piece of a cotton ball (a quarter to a half) helped me tremendously, even though it has no taste. Just the comfort of having a small lump in my usual spot worked like a baby's binkie. Swishing some Listerine in my mouth after putting in the cotton helped with strong caves.
