Thanks Muddler...It's going ok, I actually had more snuff that around the house this weekend than I realized. I but I didn't use any more than I said I was. I have kind of a ritual in the morning of starting the truck and taking a dip before I make the hour comute. Rather than taking that dip I did a cerimonial dump of the snuff that I had around the house. This was an empty the can and let it blow away as I have been know to dumpster dive for a discarded can, and just in case you were wondering....no I have no shame. This time it's gone there is not a flake of that shit in my house/truck/office as of today!!!
I do however keep reaching for my bag or back pocket to pull out a can that's not there while at the office. It's kinda funny.

It sure is. As I sit here nibbling on trail mix, I realize that I like eating more than dipping. Anyways, I have a baby on the way, and I feel that every time I put in a dip, I was being quite selfish. When I thought about this group this morning, I knew I had the support to move forward.

Awesome! PennaMatt has been a part of several quit groups, including the LTQ, but I'm pretty sure we haven't seen you here since right around the time we all were hitting 100 days. Welcome back brother! Please feel free to stop in the Jan. '07 group... once a member, always a member, as long as you are working on your quit. I'm so glad to see that you are, indeed, working on your quit. Day 1 or Day 1000, it's a good day to be tobacco free. Yes it is.

Yep, made it through lunch. I am however just one large raw nerve at this point and have had to step out of the office to get some air in order that I don't stab someone in the eye with a pen, it's the little things I do to help out...you know.
GOD!!! I wish these DAMN PEOPLE IN THIS OFFICE WOULD QUIT BREATHING SO F'ING LOUD!!!
Hang in there brother...go do some pushup or something...That's what I've been doing everytime I want to reach for a dip...go do some pushups...I do'm till muscle failure which right now is about 4

PennaMatt - Day 1.... done with this fuckin' shit.
VRK - Day 1 - I feel like today is the start of a new tobacco free life.
I believe this is welcome back for the two of you. Get it done today. That is
ALL you need to worry about.
Yes it is.
Thanks man, for welcoming me back. I hit day 100 and went beyond actually.... I almost made it to 1 year. October 23rd, 2008 would have been my 1-year anniversary off chew, but I caved like 2 weeks before hand. Isn't that a bitch? I'm back though, with a vengeance. I can't and won't let this stuff control my life anymore.

That's just funny. I used to tell people at work when I was quitting. It was funny because we were hoping that someone that typically f'd with us would do it that day or two or three. And then I might blow up. It never happened though. Speaking of working out, that's a great way to burn off the nerves.

I'm telling you the push up thing is something I've done in the past....everytime that I start to get the twitch or start chewing on my lip, or start scratching my gums with a piece of sandpaper (you know what I mean....you get that itchy gum feeling like you could scratch shit out of 'm and they'd still be itchy) That's when I start do'n the push ups. And when I can't do pushups any more I got to situps. And it seriously helps a ton.
The other thing that helps is talking about it....just being honest that not having a dip of snuff in my mouth makes wanna pin someone down to the ground and continually knee them alternatitvely in the face and nuts...helps me to cope with the stress that I'm feeling.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

We are Nicotine Addicts! Recovery is a temporary period of re-adjustment during which the mind and body are allowed to undergo an amazing healing process. It's a period when the brain is permitted to physically re-sensitize neuronal pathways to again functioning without nicotine. It’s giving the subconscious mind time to encounter and break free of years of dependency conditioning, and the conscious thinking mind an opportunity to adapt to the physical changes, cope with re-conditioning, and transverse years of dependency rationalizations. It’s allowing yourself the time needed to arrive at a day when "you" can again comfortably engage all aspects of life without a physical, subconscious or conscious need for nicotine.
Although we should expect anxiety producing bumps in the road, with each passing day fewer and fewer thoughts of wanting to chew will occur. Recovery is the period when deeply ingrained psychological nicotine feeding cues, fathered by true chemical dependency, are broken. It's a matter of staying prepared, as a few such cues may be seasonal, mood related or associated with infrequent activities or events.
Whether nicotine dependency was established and/or maintained by being chewed, smoked, drank, snuffed, sprayed, swallowed, sucked, licked or patched, in the end there is only one way out - no nicotine today.
Every recovery is different. The number and intensity of effects noticed or felt varies from person to person, and even between each person's own cessation experiences. Many are surprised to find that they experience almost no symptoms at all while others are confronted with multiple symptoms. The number and types of particular feeding cues selected and formed by endless compliance with the mind's chemical demand for nicotine refueling also cause each person's recovery experience to be almost unique.
By understanding some of the symptoms and effects it may be possible, in some instances, to minimize their impact by thought or action. Removing the mystery associated with the sequencing and timing of withdrawal and recovery will hopefully make you feel like you have your very own roadmap to the rich sense of comfort, mental quiet and calm awaiting you at the other end of Freedom's Road. We didn't suck tissue destroying weeds composed of over 4,000 chemicals that included ammonia, formaldehyde, arsenic, butane, hydrogen cyanide, lead, mercury, vinyl chloride, methane or vast quantities of other poisons into our body because we wanted to watch each chew destroy a bit more of our bodies. We did so to get to the nicotine. Is it time to end our own senseless self-destruction?
Nicotine is a colorless, odorless, organic-based alkaloid in the same family as cocaine, morphine, quinine and strychnine, yet it is more poisonous than either arsenic or strychnine. Although cocaine and heroin both produce powerfully intoxicating illegal highs, governments, experts and studies now tell us that neither is as effective at creating chemical "dependency" as nicotine. The one-year success rate for those who go through heroin withdrawal is roughly 20%, whereas with nicotine it’s closer to 5%. Except for the type of high experienced and that fact that our stimulant is legal, we truly are drug addicts, just as much as the addicts that fill jails and prisons around the globe. In 1998 tobacco killed 25 times more Americans than all illegal drugs combined (418,690 to 16,926 - U.S. Center for Disease Control).

Damn, it's good to see five new quitters getting the June 09 group off to a good start. I know 2 or 3 of you are returning members. We all make mistakes. Let's learn from them and move on with our lives. Also got some new names I haven't seen before. Glad to have each of you here. This is a support site, so don't hesitate to let someone know if you need help with anything. We can't help if we don't know what's wrong. Send a personal message (PM) or email, or just post here or in the cafe what you're going through.
We know these first few days can seem like hell. But spend your free time here if possible and get to know one another and try to joke around a little. It helps to pass the time and takes your mind off of what you're missing (at least to some part). Plan on spending many days, weeks, months, or even years with these fellow quitters. Don't expect to be "cured" in just a couple of days. For most of us, we've been doing that stuff for years (even decades), and old habits die hard. Truth is, you'll never really be "cured"...you'll always be an addict. But you learn to deal with your addiction like many of us have and you find out that life is much better without being chained to the can of snuff. Trust me when I saw that the life you discover after you quit using smokeless is
so much better than what you're used to, and it's definitely worth putting in the effort to get that feeling.
My suggestion...the five of you are all on Day One. Make a big effort to personally contact each other and look out for each other every day. We want to see the five of you (and any others that may post day one later today) make it all the way to 100 days and beyond. How cool would that be to have 5 guys hitting the Hall of Fame on the same day in June? Further, this class is only 2 days old...you'll have many more new members join in the next 4 weeks. Start now to take a leadership role and help the new quitters as they come along. Let's make June 2009 one of the most successful quit groups on QSSN!
EDIT: I see we have yet another Day One member today....welcome, Maddie!
EDIT AGAIN: Welcome back, People Champ...make that 7 quitters on day 1 today!
