Hey all,

On Easter Sunday (4/12/09) I was outside with a dip in and all of a sudden I took my can of Skoal Mint and dumped it out on the lawn and threw my dip out. I decided that im quitting...cold turkey.... I have tried before but was never serious about it. Right now its 10:30 tuesday night. About 48 hours or 2 days of not having a dip. I have been reading some of the topics here and this website and thought i would come here for support.

Today was really hard, im a college student and this week of classes is really tough. 2 papers, 2 tests, work, etc etc.

I went to Sam's Club yesterday and bought a box of Jolly Ranchers, Sun flower seeds, blow pops, and bubble gum. I had to fill up today at the gas station for gas and it was SO DAMN HARD to walk in there and pay for gas starring at that those Skoal cans, I found myself buying some Big League Chew, haha.

So basically I was wondering if any of you have been in my shoes before? I have tried going to sleep tonight and right now i might just try and take of PM medicine.

Thank you,
Papa Squat

I've only been off for 5 days now but can tell you you came to the right place. Read the posts, expecally the ones that walk you through this site. Go to the roll call in the members area and find the one with the July HOF. It is for those who quit between March 24 and April 23. Hit the roll call and add your name to the roll of quitters. Some of the people that have been here longer will contact you. The nice thing is we all want everyone to stay quit here and will give you all the moral support you need.

I think everyone here has been in your shoes. I still am. Keep strong and check out the site. It helps me and I'm sure it will help you too.

Thank you for the information Donnie.

Papa Squat, if you really want to quit - and I believe you do - then becoming actively involved with this site can make it happen. Many of us were slaves to dip for ten, fifteen, or even thirty years and have been clean long enough that seeing a store with a free-all-you-can-carry-off-cans-of-dip sign wouldn't even trigger a slight desire.

But it took a daily commitment to stay clean for today. Not for the week, not for the month, and certainly not forever. But just for today - and to our quit group.

Reach much and post often. And at every new level you reach, take time to offer support to those behind you. (Hint: Your number of posts should be quite a few more than your total number of days quit!)

Eutychus,

I like the hint about days quit and number of posts. Thanks!

Glad to have you here, papa squat. Some other advice...drink ice cold water whenever a crave hits. Besides giving you something to do, it helps to flush the nicotine out of your body. It takes about 3 days for most of the nic to leave your system. Also, when craving, trying to take a walk, go for a run, do some push-ups...whatever it takes to take your mind off of it and get through the crave. And of course, get online and vent here with your quit brothers and sisters in your quit group. You've already stocked up on sunflower seeds, gum (non-nicotine), and candy. These are really helpful (though you may also want to get some healthier food to snack on, too!). Hang in there...after the first 3 days, it gets better and better. It's worth the pain to get your freedom back!

PAPA

The sleepless nights will be commmon for a while followed by an increase in energy. I was told to limit my caffeine at the beginning and it helped. Don't use meds if you don't have to---it may start a whole new addiction ohmy.gif
