I just found this site. I have been dipping since I was 12 years old. I am now 38 and have tried so many times to quit. I know it can be done. I once quit for a year but then I joined the Army. It's be on since!!! Any help I can get is appreciated.

Welcome to this site, and what a great decision to toss the can!
You will find that your situation is similar but not the exact same to everyone in here. You fear going through the withdrawls but you know you need to. You may have tried 100 times and caved the first day, or you may have quit for a few years then started back up because of "just this one time".
You will find may different methods in here. Personally, the biggest help that I have had in quitting was not from my wife (who hates the habit), it wasn't even my kids. It was the accountability of coming to this site and making a promise every morning that I would not quit. THe toughest part is deciding to throw the can away and facing the giant head on.

Now that you have made the decision, go to the cafe and read some of the stories. There are people there that have not yet quit, and those that have been quit for many years. After 100 days of being quit, you are a Hall Of Fame member. Read some of the Hall of Fame speeches.

Anyone in here will tell you that you need to decide on a date and follow it. Most will tell you that the date should be right now - throw the can away - watch it swirl down the drain as you empty the contents. Then post roll call in the August 2009 HOF class as you will get your HOF (hall of fame) in August by quitting today. Go get some fake snuff, sunflower seeds, gum, or some straws to chew on. Post daily in your HOF class: each time you post you are making a promise not to chew today. Don't post for tomorrow, post for today. Take each day as it comes. Get to know the folks in your class. Make friends. EXCHANGE PHONE NUMBERS!!! Very important to have accountability in here, it has helped me tremendously!

Good luck in your quit. It is a tough road ahead of you, but after a couple of days, it will start getting better daily and you will no longer be a slave to your addiction.

Ditto on everything Ohio just told you but I wanted to add one thing. Today is the Friday before a long weekend. I would suggest quitting today, not for the reason of just throwing the can away and starting to deal with it, but if you have a traditional job it will give you three to four days from work allowing you to deal with the withdrawals. My first 5 days were my hardest and I had a very hard time concentrating for that period. Frankly, I was in a fog for almost 3 weeks but the first 5 days were the worse. I was able to hang on for that time and things kept getting better. You can do this.
