I woke up this morning and put a dip in and was faced with a problem I've been having for a month now. I get scartchy, soar throats and my right lymph node begins to swell up and this use to happen once in a blue moon and now its in closer intervals and its beginning to scare me. I'm 22 and have been dipping for a year now, one can a day and so far today I've only had two dips and I already can tell this is going to be hell.

Looking at the pictures of guys with the jaws being taken off and etc has no effect on me, I was curious what do you guys do to help you take your mind off of the crave if the pictures don't have an effect on you either? I've tried quitting was once before and made it an entire week lol.. at this time what helped me was having chewing gum, replacing that oral fixation on to something else but it isn't enough, thoughts?

I've had a sore throat for about 3 weeks, still hurts when I swallow, probably an infection. Anyway, I'm almost done with day 2 and it has been hell. For me I had to keep busy, keep my mind on other things because when my mind is idol, it goes straight to cravings. You have to really want to quit. I started trying to quit around 17 and didn't finally quit until 27, two days ago.

Expect the pain and embrace it. You deserve the withdrawal from the damage you have done to your body. If you really want to quit you will quit no matter what. Get on this site as much as you can and begin to identify yourself as a non-dipper. PM people and let them know what you are going through.

Take advantage of sleep when you can, you can knock out a good percentage of the first 72 hours that way. Gum, candy, tear open some tea bags, whatever you know will work for you will work. Realize that you are like a child trying to quit sucking it's thumb. It's all a comfort blanket. You don't need that poison to deal with everyday life. Nicotine has re-wired your brain and it's time to bring it back to normal.

Go ahead and join our quit group - February 2010 HOF Class, Quit Date: 10/25/2009 - 11/21/09. Many have helped me so far and I've only been here 3 days.

I've noticed that too. When I'm not occupying my time with something constructive I think, "man a dip would be nice to pass the time". What's going to be the hardest part for me is trying to find a substitute or just all out quiting that "high" and relaxed feeling. I work at a warehouse and after a long day of loading trucks nothing seems better to me than to go home kick off the boots and put a dip in. My dad told me once, "After you kick the addiction you're going to kick the habit. The habit of putting one in after eating, or when getting home." There is so much to take in for thought other than just not going to buy a can because you're quitting.

I think I failed the first time tho due to not having a community to share quitting with, I think, I know I'm going to get it this time. Brother and the others in the familly who dip will probably look down on me for this but my life means more to me than that. Congradulations also on your quitting too! The best of luck buddy.

Only on day 4 but this site has already helped. Just knowing I'm not the only one going through this and realizing that some of the other guy's are having a tougher time than myself.

The thing that has helped me the most so far is this, I gave all my credit/debit cards to my wife, I don't carry cash nor do I have a way to obtain cash other than the wife. Now I realize how silly this sounds but It has worked for me. The craves seem to go away pretty quickly realizing there is NO way of purchasing a can and satisfying it.
