  1. Hi this is my HOF speech.Im Larson 57 year old retired union sheetmetal I voted for Clinton and now going to vote for McCain im a white guy had to say that so you know im not crazy.I been chewing tobacco for 38 years about 4 months ago I got a wild hair up my ass and decided to quit and found this website. at first I was using a stop watch to time my chews, and truckrick told me to go cold turkey I took his advice and here I am HOF member. What helped me a lot is I like to drink so instead of going to the bar in the evening I stayed drunk all day long at home for the first 60 days and that worked for me. Im now back on my regular schedule I go to the ELKS in the afternoon and have a few drinks then in bed by 9 pm. I no staying drunk all day is not good but it sure worked for me, I want to thank all the supporters who stayed with the group .Thank you larson email larsonstephen@msn.com phone 775 751 5988
  2. Thanks Creek. Im on day 11 know what im doing is drinking beer all day seems to help the craves allot Yesterday on day 10 I had a super bad crave so i took a couple shots of whiskey i calmed down quick.Today so far been great hardly think about a dip.and probly wont take a shot today.just beer.I know this plan wont work for everyone im retired and can drink all day. But thouse that work you still got the weekends Larson
  3. Ok, Here's the answer. Don't buy it, Don't bum it & Don't put it in your mouth. You can do whatever you want. I can help you catch the horse, hold it and give you a leg up. But, only YOU can ride it. There comes a time when you must decide.... I wish you well. I know everyone cant do this but im at the end of my 4th day. I been eating seeds and drinking beer all day long, not to bad on craveing .I normally drink beer at night but during my quit its all day long till i sleep not to bad so far. Larson

  6. Your plan sounds better than using a nic supplement, but what would keep you from just keeping your dip in longer and putting bigger and bigger chews in as you space them out? Unless you are calibrating how much you put in each time and are timing how long to keep a chew in, then it would be awfully easy to drag this thing out. More power to you and whatever works is fine with me, but get it over with soon and use the tools and people here to help you quit. Embrace the suck.....Bill Hey bill your right about carrying your dip a little longer than you normally do but last time I did this once you get about 4 or 5 hours apart you body really leans down good on nicotine levels. Today I was going to set 1hr 25 min but instead I set 1hr 30 min and its not on a buzzer and I was real happy that one time today I went past to 1hr 50 min my 1 hr 30min is just my minimum and I start again. The most important thing is to delay your morning dip the same time you set. tomorrow I will go to 1hr 40 min and will not take my first dip till 1hr 40 min after I wake up the morning dip is the hardest hurdle but after that its kind of easy. For about the next 10 days ill be selling onions with the shriners, that will really keep my mind occupied im expecting after that ill be ready for roll call .Im retired now and whats bad about that you have a lot of idle time that not good when your trying to quit something so the onion sales coudnt have come at a better time.Ill keep everyone posted on the stop watch. Steve Larson, I commend you for your planning and it seems like you have something you are comfortable with. I can see how that could work, but I have experience with a plan similar to this. Mine was not as well defined, but the same idea. In general, I will say that: 1. I spent a lot of time watchign the clock. 2. I definitely kept the dip in longer, and it was a bigger dip than normal, especially as time went on. 3. I played this game for many days (again, not as specifically defined). 4. I did not end up a quitter like I wanted to be. I have to advocate for cold turkey. I think I spent so much time waiting for "dip time"...stressing about making longer, etc. Once I decided to cut it out entirely, those thoughts are gone. You embrace the suck and enjoy the freedom. As I reflect on my 79 days of quitting, The first 10-20 days were really difficult. The next 60 or more are hard at times. But once I decided it was done, I knew it was none, one day at a time. Think about taking the time you spend watching the clock doing something else...like posting here or reading all the posts and HOF speeches. I read a couple inspiring ones just tonight! 1969 is a long time ago, and I know it is hard. Do what you need to quit... Please let us help you. yaw I know your right about cold turkey is the best way to go but im going to try to get my nic levels down first I chewed more than a can a day for a long time. I set my quit date may 15 today I am 1 hr 40 min between chews.Had a hard time sleeping last night kind of had night cravings good sign nic levels down

  8. larson1, It's great that you have a plan. If you are disciplined enough to use the stopwatch faithfully and get weened off to cold turkey then great. Once you are it still might suck. Stay close to the sight and familiarize yourself with the quit group and roll call. You might feel better by just quitting cold now, putting up with some hell, and having that crap out of your system. Not lecturing, just another option. Call on us for help, that's why we're here. thanks for the advice I will check out roll call. What got on the stop watch I had a friend who quit smoking with this device that he smoked normal the first week and hit a button every time he smoked. After that the device would ring a alarm and tell him when to smoke I know dip is harder to break that smoking I used to smoke quit for two years than started diping. Thanks again for your help.larson1
  9. glad I found this site I been dipping since 1969, I Quit once for about two years, I set up a plan that seems two be working. I have a stop watch today I have a dip every 1hr 20 min tomorrow when I get up I wont dip until 1 hr 25 min and every 1hr 25 min and add 5 min a day.I tried this one time before and it seemed to work pretty good ,I weened down to two dips a day with little withdrawal, the mistake I made back then was I always had my morning dip then started the stopwatch this time when I wake up in the morning I wont take my first dip for 1hr 25 min, next week ill go two ten minute interavals when I ween down two two dips a day ill cold turkey.
